“Glencoe Village Manager Philip Kiraly says that like most communities these days, residents rarely gather at village hall, unless, of course they are frustrated over an issue they are passionate about.
But Kiraly said the low attendance at Glencoe Village Board meetings most months is not a reflection of resident apathy, but instead represents a sign that officials need to reach out to folks in the community with platforms that are relevant and convenient to today’s busy lifestyles.
“We had to ask ourselves, ‘how can we have a conversation with the community and gain their input and interest, and help them participate in the process?'” said Kiraly, who helped kick off what the village is calling a “Downtown Tune Up.”
The plan includes launching a social media campaign featuring a newly created app that residents can download free to their smartphones and tablets, one that aspires to enhance communication.
