Urban Design Quick Poll
Our experience walking, shopping, and hanging out in various places is greatly impacted by urban design, i.e. the lighting, landscaping, outdoor amenities and details that make up the streetscape and define its character.
Help us understand what urban design elements would best improve the 4 areas in Downtown Glencoe identified on the map and via the quick polls below. Scroll down to share your preferences on what you’d like to see and where. Keep in mind that you can choose up to 3 answers for each area — prioritize what elements you feel are most important. If you think the area is great as-is select “no change”. Finally, if there is a design element not listed, choose other and enter your own answer.
If you experience issues viewing polls, please try opening this page in a different browser – safari / internet explorer are recommended.
THANK YOU!
The biggest need in improving the look of our downtown is to soften the enormous concrete wall of Writers Theatre which overlooks Friends Park – the only real park in Glencoe. Why was Writer’s Theatre not required to landscape this side? The scope of the building dwarfs Friends Park & the view for all passersby from Vernon is of a cold, giant wall. We need some large evergreens planted between the side of the building and Friends Park to make the area more in keeping with our Village – inviting and warm. It is a shame the way the park looks now given that significant money was just invested to improve it. When I drive on Vernon north of Park Ave all I see is concrete.
